Zanjan is the center of the province of the same name in the northwestern part of Iran and is one of the most beautiful and historical cities in Iran. About Zanjan, we must say that this city is one of the oldest regions of Iran.
One of the reasons why Zanjan has been an important city since the past is that this city is located on the way of the Silk Road. Because of this, it was one of the most important communication routes between India and China with European countries, and it was one of the busiest cities.
First, in the morning, we will drive to visit Soltanieh Dom which is located 45km east of Zanjan. The Soltanieh dome is one of the national monuments of Iran, which is also registered in the list of UNESCO.
This building is considered one of the important works of Iranian and Islamic architecture and is the second-largest brick dome in the world after the dome of Florence Cathedral (Santa Maria del Fiore). The third place among the world's largest domes is also reserved for the dome of the Hagia Sophia Mosque in Istanbul.
Soltanieh Dome is the largest dome in Iran and is considered the first example of a two-shell dome worldwide. This structure was built in the Ilkhanian period, and its turquoise color and high height can be seen from a distance.
Then, we will drive to Zanjan city. Over there, we will visit Rakht-shurkhaneh. This building has now been turned into an anthropology museum. This museum is located in the heart of the historical context of Zanjan city in a dense residential area.
One of the most famous attractions of Zanjan is the archaeological museum, which we will look at. Also, we will explore the local Bazaar and the Jameh Mosque of the city and learn more about the history.
